The next morning we woke up to gorgeous blue skies and white capped mountain peaks surrounded in wispy clouds. It was beautiful.
We took a short walk to Sprague Lake, where Chris joined some others fishing.
Meanwhile, Claire took me on a tour of all the rocks. She loves to climb and step on every one of them.
After nap time, a misty rain with wind crept in and it was a little too cold for our taste. We decided to go for a drive, and ended up at the Moraine Park Visitor Center, where a whole herd of elk grazing in the field across the road.
Not to be outdone, some deer were waiting for us just outside the door to the building.
When we got back, Kaia was awake but it was still a bit dreary out, so Heidi had the idea to stash the girls away in the car. We never knew what a great time they would have! Kaia was driving, Claire was talking on a cell phone. It was hilarious, and perhaps a preview of 14 years down the road.
We also had Claire's pea pod, which was also a great hit.
Look at those little tushies!
The next day, we decided to hike to Bierstadt Lake. The mommas all wore the girls on the way up. Here you can see that they all fell asleep. Claire's white hat is all the way flopped left, and Kaia's pink hat to the right. Evie's watermelon hat is pretty upright, but she was out too.
Lunch Break!
Here's the thing about Bierstadt: the birds! They are as aggressive as ground squirrels with their begging and stealing. At one point, one swooped down and almost took the granola bar out of Claire's hand!
Back at the cars! We made it! What a cute mother daughter pic!
Thanks for a great weekend! Let's do it again!
